News from frog farm

A lot of baking has been going on here. I am the designated bread guy here. I've made many loaves of challah, a few batches of brown rice cookies, and Michelle made some really good black bean brownies. This is the recipe i used for the brown rice cookies. . .

Cream together butter and sugar. Add beaten egg, vanilla, mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Fold in cooked rice and coconut. In another bowl, mix together 1 tablespoon sugar, cinnamon and nut meats. Drop cookie dough by teaspoons on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle top of each cookie with cinnamon-nut mixture. Bake in 350 oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until cookies are a golden brown in color. Makes 2 dozen.

The other day here , friends of Deb and Steve's came to the farm. There was 5 of them and they were in a band that was touring the west coast. For the show I made brown rice cookies and Michelle made the black bean brownies. Deb had me put them up for sale to make some money for the costs of the sound equipment. She said that the baked goods made over 30 dollars, and she gave the interns 17 dollars to do what we want with, so we got beer and chocolate.

A couple days ago I made a huge amount of challah. I made 6 loaves at once. Today Michelle and I made banana bread.

I have had the idea of getting a vehicle that I can live in and travel in. At first I was thinking an RV would be nice, but they use to much gas. So now I am thinking about a conversion van.

We will probably be leaving here within the next few days. We still aren't sure were we will go. But in 2 weeks or so we will be in Winston Oregon at Oh My Gato farm. What a corny name.

I have noticed that I am almost 25, just 2 more months. Weird.

The other day we went across the street to " the dome school". Every so often about a dozen or so people in this area get together and collectively place bulks orders for food. The sense of community here is great, they all save lots of money pitching in together. Maybe you should talk to your neighbors and say hey, we both eat lots of rice and cheese and oats and bananas and . . . . . so why don't we all get together and order a bunch of it and then split it up between us?

So I was thinking of how when I was back home last, my mom gave me this stuff to put on my face for my pimples. I read the ingredients on the back and one of the main ingredients was urea. Interesting!! Urea is found in urine. Urine is 95 percent water, 2.5 percent urea and 2.5 percent other trace minerals. Cosmetic companies keep horses in there factory's specifically for the collection of their pee to gain the urea which is found in lots of makeups. I will end on that.

  1. Thanks for sharing the recipe...sounds yummy! Everyone must be lovin' your bread. Are you going to make my favorite sweet rolls? I think you made them with sweet potato, but I might be mixing that up :-)
